Don't judge a book by it's cover!!!

My lovely wife was jonesing for Chinese food and after a beautiful day at Long Beach enjoying glorious sun and beach, we were practically ready to eat our trusty GPS which eventually led us to the Eastern Chinese restaurant in Port Rowan. I consider myself a bit of a Chinese food aficionado, expecially when it comes to hot and sour soup and egg rolls. We walked into your typical small town Chinese food joint, not very busy - ok..we were actually the only ones in the restaurant!.. but WOW what a hidden gem!. We were greeted by a very friendly and gracious Chinese lady who spoke in broken english but we suspect that she was the owner as there were two other young girls lurking over her to make sure that she captured our order correctly. First came the hot and sour soup, admittedly the best that I have ever tasted in my life. This soup was not sweet at all, and surprisingly it had slices of green pepper to enhance it's already yummy flavour. Simply gorgeous, I could eat a gallon of this stuff. Shortly after the soup arrived along came our egg rolls. Very crispy and obviously a homemade recipe versus the typical wholesale cabbage based rolls. Again, ...."I'll take a dozen to go please?!?!". The main courses arrived; garlic beef, shrimp with chinese greens, and chicken fried rice. The garlic beef was our favorite, lots of snow peas with real fermented black beans and slices of garlic buds..YUM. The beef was very nice. Some beef that we have had from other restaurants appear light in colour and are too chewy for our liking. This beef was somewhat dry yet tender. Perfect sized chunks. The shrimps were very fresh and were properly cleaned/de-veined. Again, lots of fresh vegatables and perfectly sauteed. The rice was very good, not the best that I have ever tasted, but very good nontheless. We are looking forward to our next visit to Long Point and especially a stop at the Eastern Restaurnt.5 stars!
