Love it that they have Leffe Blonde on draught here, the food is simple but good (belgian frites with mayo mmm), the service is generally quick and it is entertaining to see the chefs and barman in action in their tiny work space. Almost like watching a ballet dance!
At The District charred roma tomato, chorizo sausage, tarragon, and dried guajillo pepper dance with Gulf Island mussels, and beef short ribs are braised to perfection. Owner Paul Mon-Kau brings a fresh vibe to the neighbourhood with hopping tunes, 28 artisanal beers, and his twist on the bloody caesar (infused with house-made bacon).
Initially after the first couple of times going there, my fiance and I were impressed. We were happy that there was a hip place to go in North Van, w/ good atmosphere, (tapas, dj). I love the atmosphere, the food, the beer, the wine... but they need to change the menu! I've been coming here for 2+ years and pretty much everything on the menu is the same. I keep going back as there's not many other places like it on the North Shore, but every time it's just the same old menu.
Small space, crowded area and high noise levels aside, the District does not have good food. My husband had a burger and a poutine and I had crab cakes. He asked for mushrooms and bacon on the burger only to find when we received the bill, they charged him $2 for each topping.
