They have their regulars here, so if you want to get in, make reservations early. The regulars know something the rest of us might not. This place has great Italian food and ambience period. It's fine dining not casual Italian, and a bit pricey. Great for that special occasion.
It's not the most upscale, but it's a friendly, high quality Italian restaurant. It's the just right kinda place if you're looking for a place to celebrate, or just go out for some "fine dining" Italian. The staff will treat you like they've known you for years like friends, and the food is fantastic. A GREAT kitchen!
i find that the food here is very good and the service is okay, kind of snooty if that's an okay way to explain it. like you don't belong somehow, but they are still nice.
I view Guido Panara's Italian speiclties the best in Calgary. We have always enjoyed the food. I have noticed lately that the timing is off. We are never in a rush but we experienced that the timing between our apts and our mains were out of synk! I had not finished my wonderful calamari friti and my Veal dish arrived. Timing was off but the food was great. Will certainly return soonChip
The owner is your stereo-typical Italian restauranteur - loud, brash, and fiercely stubborn, yet charming in being set in his ways, which isn't a bad thing for diners. For example, the linen has a high thread count, and the glasses and silverware are spotless. From what I understand, he takes three or four month vacations in Italy every year when the restaurant is shut down.My experience may be... more
The food was average, the portion was small , but the price was too expensive for what they serve. For a $30 dish, I would expect 4 to 5 stars food. This is 2.5 to 3 stars. The staff was rude and ignorant. Our reservation was at 7pm and we did not get the table until 8:10 pm. We need to have a few words with the staff because he wanted to seat the parties that came after us. Why bother have... more
First time to Da Guido and I must say I was blown away. Started with the tenderloin carpaccio and it was amazing; hard to remeber the last time I started off a meal that well! Then opted for the sea bass special in a lemon-butter-wine sauce. I have to say, I love sea bass and have had it often, but nothing could touch this. The chef truly pays attention to the details in creating dynamic... more
We arrived on short notice on a very busy night and were made to feel welcome. Even though the restaurant was extremely busy, we did not feel rushed and had a wonderful time. We had the seafood platter for two with pasta, and it was fresh and excellent.
Excellent, excellent, excellent! Especially the calamari!
Upscale, fine Italian dining is available just minutes from the downtown core—Da Guido\'s offers first-class dining at very reasonable prices. You can choose from an array of traditional Italian fare, or select some of the more exotic seafood dishes. Da Guido\'s offers a separate dining room for non-smokers. They specialize in Italian food and offer various seafood, lamb and veal entrees. They... more
