I began my negotiations with Shawn Andani via email regarding a listed vehicle for $59,950 (Range Rover Evoque) that was listed on Autotrader. First things first, he wouldn't even give me the black book value on my 2011 Ford Edge Sport as a trade in value and after he realized I knew it was worth at least that (knowing the black book value is based on the Dealer not seeing the vehicle and based on worse case scenarios) he tried to factor in taking a couple thousand off the price of the vehicle for sale as being part of the black book value towards my vehicle (now if that was the case, he would have just given me that as a black book trade in value period). He acted like he was doing me a favour.
As things progressed, he disappeared and re-appeared saying that he would be in contact... Clearly this was on his terms. His overall demeanor was obnoxious on the edge of arrogant throughout our dealings. His grammar was terrible and he acted like a 20 year old kid would act at times (especially with his slang) and often boasted about his 20 years with this Dealership. The only reason I continued on was because I wanted the vehicle in question.
We got pretty close to a price that I felt was close to being fair, but then he shifted gears stating that he was talking about another Dynamic Evoque with 19" wheels and London tan leather with lower KMS. ??????????? We bickered back and forth about it as none of it made any sense to me. I asked for pics to see what he was talking about and he provided me with some from his own phone, but this clearly wasn`t the vehicle I was negotiating and it clearly was a new vehicle on the lot (not yet listed). I stated that the one I wanted would be less as it had higher mileage, but he shifted gears again and said that that vehicle was the prestige dynamic with 20 inch wheels, so it was more. This upset me and though I felt like lashing out, I simply called him out on his blatant lie. All Dynamics come with 20 inch wheels and unfortunately for Shawn, this vehicle was not listed anywhere online or anywhere else and I certainly wouldn't be negotiating a price of a vehicle without seeing it or knowing anything about it. After pointing this out, he was more stubborn than ever before by stating that the one I wanted was $1500 more. He followed up with, "the one you want is $34 + tax and trade....forget all else."
I offered him a chance to explain himself (as I thought it was odd for a Sales Rep to do such a thing) even if it was something out of his control or for whatever other reason and I also advised him that if he didn't give me an explanation that that would reflect in the reviews I would be giving him online regarding our experience and the Dealership he works for (I hope his Superiors read this), but he chose to not respond. i gave him an opportunity to fix our situation and he decided against it.
Unfortunately for me, my research on this Dealership began after the fact and i found some pretty negative stuff online about them. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. My advice would be to steer clear of this Dealership and make sure to do your research first!
