Great Choice

Picked up some roast beef for a Sunday afternoon lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. Of all the options the roast beef was the only one finished. I recommend Caplansky's to anyone that likes a good sandwich.

I dream of Caplanksy's

If you are looking for smoked meat in Toronto you've come to the right place. They smoke their meat on site and it tastes like heaven in a camp fire. Don't go expecting Schwartzes or impressions of Montreal. From the colour scheme to the great beers on tap, Caplansky's is Toronto specific. The menu is quite reasonably priced and they don't lose focus by making it too broad. From breakfast to supper, this place nails it.

Montréal's smoked meat is rightfully famous. Now, Toronto has a fantastic version to call its own. Zane Caplansky's fatty, um, marbled pastrami-on-rye is the main attraction: The hand-cut slices of pink, salty goodness are also featured in hash browns, with eggs, in a burger, and numerous other worthy ways. Choose your fat content: lean, medium, or full-on. Students and profs, foodies and... more

Torontonians no longer have to drive five hours down the 401 to get authentic smoked meat. Zane Caplansky's old school deli has become the de facto spot for Jewish comfort food thanks to his luscious cured beef that comes in a sandwich, on its own, or--if artery-clogging is your hobby--on top of a poutine. Other heavy hitters (and we stress the word heavy) include the maple dipped fried... more

I really want to say I like it, but can't. I asked for smoked Turkey and I have never tasted anything so terrible. I do not see the quality. Who eats this food?

I most recently visited their new yorkville location. I think the gig is up overall on caplansky's. Of top priority the smoked meat is dry and tasteless. The latkes were swimming in oil and over cooked as well as flavorless. There were about 10 random people that came into the shop and lined up to order and almost the same 10 were a few minutes later lined up to complain about such things as... more

Traditional recipes such as matzoh ball soup, chopped liver on challah, kiska, knish and pickled herring. All-day breakfast, too—try versht and eggs or a bagel with lox and cream cheese. "Flavoursome" smoked delicacies like brisket and tongue, plus breakfast platters, Jewish classics and other noshes bring fressers through the doors of this affordable College Street joint with a "true deli atmosphere"; a few snipe it's "inconsistent" and the sandwiches aren't "piled as high as you'd expect", but still recommend it to those "whose appetite for meat is nearly limitless."
