Barney's loves Bennies, so much so, the brunch menu is available all day, with an obvious neighborhood following. To survive the weekend line-up of expensive bedheads, grab a coffee next door and cool your heels at the long bar with a paper. Be prepared to line up for weekend brunch; the portions are worth it. The room is funky, worn, and noisy; the food—burgers, soups, chicken caesar salads, and such—straight-ahead and well prepared. Prices, music, and vibe appeal to a hip young clientele. Good draft beer, quality coffees, and a hidden gem of a patio out back.

There is art... more

I understand that a large part of a dining experience is the atmosphere created by the host and wait staff, which is by trade usually charming and helpful. Occasionally one encounters an establishment that likes to turn this concept on its head; "The Elbow Room" is one example, though the jury is still out on whether that is really a working motif, but I digress. Generally speaking, unless... more
