Rip Off of the Day

RIPOFF OF THE DAY – CAFÉ NELLY

Today, we had an appointment in the building so had lunch at the Cafe Nelly downstairs. On the menu it said Egg Salad Sandwich - $3.25. I ordered two egg sandwiches - one on multigrain and one on white. The server started making the sandwich and because the amount of egg salad she was putting into the sandwich was excessive, I asked her to cut the amount in half. She then asked me if I wanted lettuce on both. I agreed and then she asked if there was anything else I wanted in the sandwich. I requested a little red onion on the multigrain. I purchased one bottle of soda also. When I paid instead of being charged $3.25 for each sandwich I was instead charged $4.00 and $3.50. (The pop was $1.75!) When I questioned the amount as the sandwich board explicitly said $3.25. She said they had changed their prices and apologized that they had not changed the board. (What you cannot wipe off the chalk and rewrite). Not a valid excuse for me. Even though I expressed my dissatisfaction on being ripped off, they did not offer to reimburse me.) When I asked why the difference in price between the two egg sandwiches they said it was because one had a little red onion! What she never indicated at anytime when she was making the sandwich that a little red onion would be extra; she asked me what else I wanted only. I’m sure a little red onion on the one sandwich was countered by not having to put in twice the amount of egg salad. We will never go back there again and suggest to anyone else using this deli in the Surrey passport office/or other businesses that you make sure you know what you are paying for before you hand over your money. This was out and out extortion as far as we are concerned.
