Specialties

Since opening in 1988, Il Nido has consistently ranked in the top echelon of Vancouver restaurants. Here, BC's finest ingredients are used to create dishes reminiscent of Northern Italy - "the food of kings, peasants and, everyone in between". Traditional fish, meat and pasta dishes are made luxuriously with the use of non-tradional herbs and spices, such as saffron and ginger.... more

Here's a city gem as hidden as a Mafioso in the witness-protection program. This courtyard patio tucked away between the Manhattan Apartments has that la dolce vitta atmosphere and Italian dishes as finely crafted and imaginative as a Fellini film.

This comfortable room, hidden in a courtyard at Robson and Thurlow, has long been a favourite of West Enders and tourists who made a happy discovery after a long day of shopping. New this spring was a freshening-up of the lounge and patio area (the latter is the perfect answer to the always-full rooftop patio at Joe Fortes across the street). The menu features classic trat- toria dishes... more

"Every bite is delicious" enthuse boosters who upped the Food score five points, praising "melt-in-your-mouth" Italian fare at this midpriced West Ender tucked inside the Manhattan Co-Op block's courtyard; couples treated to "excellent" service suggest the "warm", "quiet" space – dressed with tasteful tile, wine racks and comfy leather seating – is a lock for a "romantic" rendezvous.

I've been here many times, most recently this week on a weeknight and rather last minute. The service is always prompt and courteous. This past week it was a little brusque but that had more to do with the latest of the seating, and the other patrons in the restaurant who were either overly demanding, rude and/or loud. The flavours had from the starters and mains were consistently sharp and... more

The concept seems nice- a little alcove off of Robson Street for some quaint Italian food, but ends up disappointing. The atmosphere is more dingy than quaint and the owner comes across more as a salesperson than down-to-earth. Let's get to the food: Completely unremarkable if not just plain and boring. It's neither trendy Italian fusion cuisine nor is it the home style mama's cucina style... more

It is hidden back in a courtyard, so very easy to miss.

My friend had made a reservation on a Saturday night, and I was surprised when I arrived how quiet it was. We were seated on the side patio.

Overall, I'd say my experience was fine. When I initially got there, I was met by the sommelier (I didn't know this at the time)... it was kind of an awkward encounter, so I opted to wait outside... more

If you're looking for an experience that's beautifully charming, and wonderfully flavored, Cafe Il Nido will fit the bill. Tucked away in the covered courtyard of the Manhattan Apartments, you will feel as though you have found a hidden gem, that's literally right off of Robson Street. The 30-seat outdoor courtyard seating is perfect for dining al fresco on a beautiful day, or enjoying a little... more
