A longtime and entirely convivial eating venue, Café du Monde moved in 2002 to its current location adjoining Le Terminal de Croisières -- the cruise terminal. It's a rather large, Parisian-style space, seating more than 100 inside and nearly that number on a terrace overlooking the St. Lawrence River. The staff is as amiable as ever, the food a touch more creative but still within bistro... more
A happy-go-lucky spot in the Old Port, just off the banks of the St. Lawrence, Café du Monde has tinkling glasses hanging from the circular bar and white-aproned servers merrily whirling about, lending it the feel of a carnival space. It's sizable, with stairs leading up to a big dining room with old-fashioned tile floors and tables draped in white. It attracts a mostly local crowd of regulars... more
We eat here every time we come to quebec because we enjoy classic french bistro fare and a good wine list for a reasonable amount of money. Dinner for 4 with a bottle of wine is usually around $200.I recommend the trio of mussels with frites. As we are from T.O. we usually compare this with le Select Bistro. Both restaurants have been around for quite some time and changed hands / locations. Le... more
I would go here for the view from the terrace on a beautiful day, not for a great experience eating French bistro food.I was particularly surprised how expensive food was for lunch with most dishes ranged from $19 to over $30. There were about five entrees that were lunch specials between $17 and $22. We tried to eat as cheaply as possible, so I had the trio of mussels at $21. The mussels were... more
Good food, excellent paté. Kind waitstaff. Café du Monde was packed when we ate there on a Saturday night. Our waiter was efficient and made an excellent wine recommendation. Everyone enjoyed their typically french meal and the desserts were good.
This smart Old Québec eatery has successfully fashioned itself after a Parisian bistro-café. A lovely front facade is marked by a large window that's thrown open when it's nice out; waiters attired in stiff bow ties and knee-length aprons stand ready to serve. The well-lit dining area features checkered tiles and intimate, café-style tables — few places provide a better setting for a business... more
Located in the beautiful Place Royale, Le Café du Monde is an inviting bistro facing the docks. Both customers and staff seem to be in a constant state of good cheer perhaps the result of the warm atmosphere and food. This café serves excellent French cuisine. Among some of the more delicious items on the menu are fried duck livers in a blackberry sauce, leek and curry mussels, and chicken... more
