The menu aims to combine the ingredient specificity of rustic Italian cuisine with the culinary finesse of fine dining, building recipes around fresh and seasonal produce, but using a number of classical culinary techniques as well. Despite its geographical obscurity (Buca is located way down a King West back alley) the cozy room--all exposed brick, super high ceilings, and bare industrial bulbs--is always filled with symmetrical thirtysomethings. One bite of chef Rob Gentile's rustic Italian cuisine and you'll know why. As expected, the various pizza and pasta offerings are sublime, but don't miss out on more adventurous... more

Only the most popular restaurants can play a game of hide-and-seek and get away with it. And so it is with this hard-to-find Italian subterranean destination: down an alleyway with no signage, how silly. But it's worth the search for the exceptional fare. Chef Rob Gentile takes the accessible and comforting rustic foods of Italy and treats them with craft and care. Most everything is done... more

Excellent evening out
August 15, 2014

We went for the six course tasting menu with wine pairings. Most of the dishes were off of the regular menu but with the portion size scaled down for a multi course dinner. The food, the choices for the wine pairing and the service were all excellent. It made for a great evening.

I accidentally made a reservation for a Tuesday night, but myself and my partner showed up on the Monday preceding the reservation. Staff went above and beyond and found us a table with 10 mins. The host even provided us with a glass of proseco as we sat at our table. That set the tone for the remainder of the evening. The service was fantastic, very knowledgeable staff, wine selection was... more

I took my husband here for his birthday and it honestly felt like we were back in Italy. The food and service was amazing. We will definitely go back and will recommend to others. Thanks Buca for a wonderful experience!

Buca is right in the heart of downtown Toronto, and it earns every loonie it receives. Dimly lit with brick walls, the ambience is charmingly rustic. The menu changes daily and utilizes ingredients that capitalize on flavour profile more so than popularity of ingredients. Lamb brains might be wrapped in prosciutto as an appetizer. Don't question it and your tongue will ultimately decide that it... more

Italian restaurant Buca is located in the King West village. The resto (by the same team behind the original Brassaii and Jacobs and Co.) has a large dining room complete with iron beams and brick. In the back area there’s a wine bar and curing area. The simple menu includes pizza, pasta, salumi, small plates and other Italian fare. The restaurant is located in an alleyway next to Cheval.
