Average Food and Service

I visited The Boathouse restaurant in New Westminster to take my family out for a special dinner. I have heard about The Boathouse restaurants for quite some time, mainly positive things so being a seafood lover I thought this would be a nice treat. The restaurant is decorated nicely with modern furnishings and is very clean. The layout is just right, having ample room for both private settings and family gatherings. The prices are fair for this type of restaurant and the food being served. We ordered promptly and our dishes came in a timely manner. Having a strong background in Maritime seafood, I was far from impressed with the dinner. The crab, prawns and lobster were decorated and garnished nicely but did not have any spectacular flavours or anything special that would bring me to comment on a positive manner. Not to say the food was bad, it just wasn't anywhere near as good as I thought it would be. The service was good at first, but then our server seemed to avoid us after our orders completed. Overall I must say The Boathouse is nowhere near as spectacular as I thought it would be, nor would I say it lives up to it's reputation or the hype I have heard previously. I would not rule it out as a restaurant I would never return to, but if I were to dine at a seafood restaurant The Boathouse would not be near the top of my list.
