Well, okay, it's not that upscale, but it is trying to be! The kitchen has good chefs, the menu is solid. The decor is trying hard but getting dated. Entertaiment on weekends adds to the great ambience. Did I mention the food is South American. Adds a bit of romantic twist to it all.
Located in a quiet NW neighbourhood, this place is an exotic little find. Sweet live music on most weekends ... acoustics Spanish guitars, flutes, etc. Very nice touch. And the food ... well, very hearty and tasty. No high school kids in this kitchen! Almost upscale fare ... obviously real chefs. Service is good, ambience is great. Try it. The red meat dishes are great and the seafood is great ... and with South American flair.
In life, there are always little moments that keep you humble. I pride myself on an excellent food memory – I can still recall the smells, tastes, and visions of thousands of meals i’ve had over the years. The place is small and service can *sometimes* be a little slow (not always), but the servers are always knowledgeable and congenial. Dinners are always intimate and fun. The Blue House may just be NW Calgary's best-kept... more
We live literally steps away from the Blue House and frequently order their deserts to go, not taking up a valuable space in the restaurant.
Seven of us dined at the Blue House Café last night and loved it. The place was full, with lineups part of the evening. Service was outstanding, quick, friendly and efficient. The House red was very good, and the seafood dishes (we all had different ones) were uniformly excellent, as were the accompanying potatoes and veg, cooked just right. The lentil soup and the crab chowder are to die... more
The Prawns and Scallops in the "Blue House Delight" were the best I have ever eaten. Really!
The Blue House Cafe is a good place to go if you\'re looking for something a little different in a dining experience. The lighting is refined and simple; the art is eclectic and the ambience, warm and inviting. It is a lively place where singers and musicians perform spirited Latin American music and original music compositions. Latin America also dominates the menu with an emphasis on fresh... more
