Not only family run and operated, but this family also built this Italian restaurant. It features traditional Italian dining and is close to the centre of Little Italy. The emphasis here is on traditional Italian dining and the menu drives that point home. Bella Vista’s look is trendy and a place for the see-and-be-seen set.
There aren't many reviews for Bellavista available, and I think I know why. On a busy Saturday night in Little Italy, when parking is at a premium and every establishment is packed to the doors, Bellavista was nearly empty. After dining there, I completely understand the reason. Service was friendly, but the food left little to be desired. The Caeser salad was fresh enough, but the "homemade" dressing was bitter and watery with an overwhelming taste of lemon zest, perhaps to cover the lack of fresh parmesan. The bread basket that arrived at our table was stale and harder than the salad's croutons, and no butter ever arrived to make it more palatable -- chewing on a wooden plank was more appealing. The canneloni special sounded promising and had a good taste to it, and the noodles were at least firm. But the overall quality simply wasn't there -- it arrived piping hot (with lots of melted cheese on top) but was swimming in water underneath, leaving the impression that it was not a freshly prepared dish, rather a frozen meal reheated in the microwave. At an average of $30 per person (no liquor), it certainly wasn't up to par. A $5 salad bowl and $2 Lean Cuisine from the grocery store would have been far more palatable. With one waitress and one ?manager up front (for all three or four occupied tables) you'd expect quicker service, but several attempts to hail the wait staff were needed for a simple beverage refill. And the music (thankfully not too loud) was like a bad 1980's low-budget television aerobics program. Overall it was certainly a disappointing anniversary dinner, and not one we'll ever repeat. It's a sad, sad statement when the mediocre food at chain restaurants is better than what's offered up at a family-owned establishment in Little Italy. Never again.
Just checked out their Winterlicious menu! It looks so good and for such a great price!! Cant wait!

This has got to be the best place on College street to eat. I have been there a few times already and tried something new everytime and the food is always amazing. The service is very friendly and unpretencious. Definately going back and recommending it to all my friends.
We went to Bella Vista for Winterlicious and we were pretty disappointed. During Winterlicious these restaurants are subsidised by the city and other corporate sponsors to offer their fare at a lower price so more people might offer patronage to a restaurant which they might not have otherwise visited. I don't think the management of Bella Vista understands this concept. Either they scale down... more
We came in looking for a table for two. We saw two beautifully set tables available yet the server made us sit at an unset table across from the bar near the washroom. Moments later they sat the other tables (with older clientel), so its not like they were reserved. We feel that we were ignored and given the worst table in the restaurant because of our age (early 20's). It took five minutes of... more
A family-owned and operated restaurant is not a particularly novel business idea. But how about a family-built one, as in with their own hands? Owners of Little Italy's Bella Vista may have had Neue Design consult on their recently opened trattoria, but it was family blood, sweat, and tears that laboured to get the job done. Is it any wonder that it took two years to unveil. Being just an... more
