How Not To Deal With Customers

On Tuesday July 21st, I went to 99 Car Wash & Detail Centre with an oily trunk and a buggy exterior on a 2011 Toyota Corolla. Angus and I had agreed upon a 130$ (plus applicable taxes) price for an exterior wash, clay bar detail, and that he would take care of the oil in the trunk (i.e. by steam cleaning and using degreaser). I asked him multiple times if he could guarantee that the oil would be removed; he assured that he could.

At 9am on Wednesday July 22nd, I dropped my car off at 99 Car Wash. I came back at 1pm to pick it up.

The spare tire trunk cover ("the piece") had not been washed. Angus mentioned that he was hesitant to wash the piece as it might have removed the adhesive between the carpeting and the plastic. Angus and I agreed that he could throw it out and I would get a replacement.

After leaving, I obtained a quote for the piece ($622) and subsequently drove back to 99 Car Wash to try to salvage it. One of his staff sprayed the piece with degreaser and power washed it. We agreed that I would come pick it up the next day.

That evening, I checked the rest of the trunk and found that there was still a substantial amount of oil where the spill had occurred. I called 99 Car Wash and left a message stating that the oil had not been cleaned up; I asked him to return my call.

He did not return my call.

I called again at 9:30 am on Friday, July 24th--I told him that there was still oil in the trunk; he explained why there would still be oil and started to get angry. He subsequently hung up on me.

As of this writing, I am now without 130$ as Angus has refused reimbursement for a half completed job and had to deal with the local RCMP officers to regain the piece for my trunk from Angus' dumpster.
