We had 5 cafes in 2005 - and sold them to focus on the roasting. 2 years later, we opened just this one to showcase what we do. Our focus is wholesale, and helping other people build cafes, serve great coffee, and run successful businesses.
He competed once: and won the Canadian Barista Championship. Finished 7th at the world's. Then we turned him out to pasture at the cafe.
Suppliers to the region’s top restaurants, this roasthaus café and shop puts a face to their online boutique, teeming with beany delights, teas, books and tools. Owners Vince and Michael Piccolo supply their superb 49th Parallel beans to coffee joints locally and across North America. This narrow café is their home base and they stick to the basics: no Wi-Fi, no high-brow art magazines, just precisely brewed coffees made from rich, perfectly roasted beans sourced globally. Oh, and a few choice pastries from Thomas Haas.
I honestly don't know what took me so long to write a review here, I'm here all the time. Needless to say I love their coffee - I typically go for an Americano Misto. It's delicious luxury in a cup. It can be a bit crowded at times but my weekends just don't feel complete without 49th Parallel.
Sorry.This location has never given me a good feeling and I just don't get the coffee experience. Came here with my ex sis-in-law and although she usually is not picky, she gave this place 1 star rating. I defer to my sense of what constitutes a 1 star rating and although its a close call, 49th P. squeaks by at a two...g
Best cup of mocha I've tasted so far in Vancouver. It's not too sweet and rich in chocolate: you can tell they're not using some cheap supermarket cocoa syrup. As far as pastries go, I've only tried the almond croissant and raspberry hazelnut torte. The croissant was excellent but I wouldn't get the torte again.
